I watched the new Simpsons movie today. Happy I didn’t spend money to see it. If I had I would have been majorly disappointed. I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t that. This truly felt like a regular episode of the Simpsons, but longer. There was really no reason to make this into a ‘movie’ that I can see. I think the only reason it’s been talked up so much is because the Simpsons fanboys are some of the most dedicated and obsessive in existence. I think the creators could have taken a few unreleased tv episodes and strung them together, released it as a movie and they would have still thought it the greatest thing ever. I definitely won’t be paying for this on DVD either.
A couple of nights ago Jackie and I watched The Seventh Seal. To my surprise she not only enjoyed it but said it was one of the best movies she’s ever seen. For some reason we’ve never really watched any of my movies that are in the Criterion collection. I would guess it’s because we normally watch movies as we’re falling asleep and there’s something about falling asleep to those types of movies that would bother me. Anyways, the real point in writing this is because the day after we watched this Ingmar Bergman died. Felt extremely strange. My imagination almost carries me to pretend maybe he was playing chess with Death in order to delay Death just long enough that she might watch it, the way Antonius Block delays Death so the actors and their child may escape.
This guy makes me laugh

The internet and it’s many resources is a fantastic thing
They just don’t make ‘em like they used to…

I LOVE the internet. Earlier tonight Jackie was commenting on how she doesn’t understand why people like the internet so much and get so addicted to it. Here I have a perfect example of why the internet is a fantastic thing. I found these absolute fantastic movies on one of the torrent sites…

OMFG IT’S A MIDGET WESTERN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously. If it weren’t for the internet I would never have found this 1938 beauty. Do you see that picture in the upper right hand portion of that poster? The horse one? Yeah, that’s right, there’s six freaking midgets riding that horse!!!!! Oh how awesome!

“Comment:
This is a Brazilian movie, starring the Three Stooges of Brazil : The Tramps. The movie starts out with a car chase in which the Tramps are being followed. After the car chase the Tramps encounter Prince Flik (an alien) who is locked in an epic battle with Zuco, over a Brain computer. Flik is there to recruit people to help him (and the princess) to fight Zuco.
This movie was intended for children or for brain-fried drug users, since it makes very little sense. It is very much a Star Wars clone, except without any logic and obviously meant as a comedy. Most of the characters have Star Wars counterparts. Prince Flik is obviously a Luke-lookalike and Zuco is Darth Vader, except wearing more gold and having various motor skill problems. There is also a Chewbacca lookalike, lots of Tuskins (who can forget the Tuskin fight scene … that will NOT end ???!!!), and Princess Leia. The director uses slow motion shots, reverse shots, fast forwards, dumb sound effects (hitting sounds included “boink”, “dink”, and “ping”) and triple takes to “move” the story along. I have not even mentioned the slow-motion fight scenes, complete with boxes full of drop-kicks (provided by the drop kick champion, William Shatner <<OMFG! -Bob>>). The music sounds like a 70’s disco night in Cairo, Egypt.
The main problem with this movie is the length. It is an 88 minute long movie. There are scenes that seem to go on forever with little to no resolution. One such scene is the “Tuskin” village fight/kidnapping. Another would be the trip to the “space disco” (Mos Eisley). The scene is at least 10 minutes long, in which the aliens do the alien “disco”. The alien disco would be like two zombies trying to dance. The Tramps then proceed to monopolize the dance floor, by doing the human disco. This then all turns into a bar fight, complete with drop kicks, slow motion, triple takes and the annoying “sound” effects. I am not even going to get into where the Tramp’s female companions came from and what they’re suppose to be doing. Most of the fight scenes consist of Dolemite-like hand to hand fighting or bonking someone on the head with a stick (there also some Stooge-like slapping). One of the strangest scenes has to be Didi’s purchase of arms from an arms dealer. During the random scene (at the space disco) he shoots 5 aliens and a vehicle, all to test the weapons. When his attempt to pay for the weapons with human money is rejected, he then shoots the arms dealer.
This movie is slightly better than Turkish Star Wars, but not by much. They both drag and have nonsensical plots. For what its worth, enjoy this movie with others and with plenty of medicine nearby. ”
Pictures from the Charity event I organized.

I’m in charge of community relations/local charity stuff for our office at work. This past saturday we held our first charity event for the office. Major stress because of the time limits but everything came together literally at the last minute. We didn’t receive the check we were presenting them until the morning of the event. But it all worked out.
We worked with a church in Trenton (‘Lion of Judah’) to help them keep school age kids off the streets and out of trouble during the summer when they don’t have school to keep them occupied. We bought the kids shoes and sleeveless jerseys for their games. We gave them a check for $1,500 that would cover the cost of renting out a gym for the kids to play in, referees for the games and anything else that might help the kids. We also bought trophies and certificates for the event itself which was a freethrow contest. Divided into three age groups we gave out three trophies in each group. Granted, I know I’m useless with a basketball in hand, but some of these kids were absolutely incredible. Kids that, from their size, you wouldn’t think they’d even be able to lift a basketball were making baskets left and right. It was awesome.
Here are some of the photos from Saturday

Now that this one is done, I’m nervously looking forward to the next one. Now that I know what challenges we’ll have to look out for while planning, it should make the next one go even smoother (in other words… don’t set a date until you know for sure you can get the shoes in time
).
Some great t-shirts!

Ever see Danny Deckchair? If not you should. Similar to the movie (which was similar to a real life event in the early eighties) a guy from Oregon strapped himself into a lawn chair attached to just over 100 giant helium balloons and sent himself skyward. 193 miles later he touched back down to earth.

Awesome website. I added to Google Reader and I’ve been reading it a lot lately. I’d say at least 1 out of every 3 posts on there is getting ’starred’ to be read a few times over in the future. Some examples:
- 20 Tricks to Nuke a Bad Habit
- A Guide to Escaping Materialism and Finding Happiness
- The 12-Step Get-Out-Of-Debt Program
- 73 Great Debt Elimination Tips
- 80 Awesome Weight Loss Tips
- A Simple Guide to Setting and Achieving Your Life Goals
Some of their tips are totally obvious (laughably so, even) but there’s usually at least a handful of real useful information in their posts. I’d definitely suggest bookmarking the site and going back through previous posts
