Bleh

December 22, 2006

Tomorrow can’t come soon enough. I really wish I could have flown home last night. As I was leaving work yesterday my mom called and told me that my dad was in the hospital but she didn’t know where or why. His best friend Steve called her and told her, but Steve didn’t know anything more than that because he heard it from one of the supervisors at work. Last night we found out a bit more, looks like he had a stroke. They’ve been running tests on him last night and all day today so we’ll know more soon I guess. All I know is I want to be home and tomorrow can’t come soon enough.

Some Music Stuff

December 20, 2006

65daysofstatic began as Iain Armstrong, Paul Wolinski and Joe Fro. Originally formed to try and write music to fit the unreleased and little known John Carpenter flick ‘Stealth Bomber’ starring Kurt Russell. Set over ‘65 Days of Static’ a period of time after some unknown global infrastructure and communications breakdown, it also gave 65 their name. Whether or not such a film ever existed is disputed.

I highly suggest checking these guys out. Kind of like distorted, noisy, electronically disturbed indie rock and I mean that in a good way.

The band intersperses heavy, progressive, guitar-driven instrumental sections with off-beat sampled drums akin to those of Aphex Twin and live drums. Their albums, as a result, maintain a distinctively gritty, almost industrial feel. Clicky.

You can download a handful of mp3s off of their webpage to give them a listen yourself.

I found a bunch of music lately. I’ve stumbled across a handful of music blogs that are posting new music everyday and, to me, 65dos is the most impressive and has grown on me the most. One other band that I’ve also been listening to a lot of is DANANANANAYKROYD, who have, by far, the most obnoxious band name I’ve seen in a very, very long time. I don’t remember exactly where I found it now, but their song Totally Bone! is awesome in a Fugazi kind of way. Normally I hate all this indie rock type bs but these two are actually good and not emolicious.

Here’s something else for you to download:

After looking around that site for a bit I’ve decided I want to go to Finland sometime…

Also because they apparently are so wealthy they burn money while out at clubs…

RRRRRRrrrrrrr!!!!!!

December 18, 2006

I found that hilarious.

I just watched the good parts of Equilibrium.  I can’t sit through that movie as a whole so I skip to the action parts.  The action parts are really good with the exception of the part where he finally fights Taye Diggs and you expect a big, drawn out battle with lots of guns and swords and instead it’s over in three seconds.  I suppose that in itself is impressive, but not what you’re expecting when watching it.

I just found out RJD2’s real first name is Ramble.  I’d love to hear the story behind his parent’s naming him that.

The weather was beautiful today.  It was in the 70s throughout the day and sunny.  I’m sitting in my room with shorts and an undershirt on and I’m sweating.  It almost feels like I’m in Florida in December again, and that’s not a bad thing as far as the weather is concerned.  It’s going to be quite a change when I’m home in like 5 days and it’s freezing and the ground is snowy.

I don’t actually want that.  Well, I would like to drive it around for one night but if I had to drive that thing to and from work everyday I’d probably… I don’t know, maybe set it on fire.  That thing is spacetastically hideous.  Yeah, it’s a Fiat.  Like one you’ve never seen.

Skeletor 2006!

December 17, 2006

I forgot to add something from The Things I Want™ on that last post so I’ll add it here:

The most coveted hoody in history Dead Serious has arrived at Karmaloop but it won’t be for long!

First exposed to the public when Kanye West rocked the sample at a Stela McCartney fashion show the hype has just kept building.

Trust me this is the closest thing to crack the streetwear industry has ever produced, and leave it to LRG to once again break new ground.

The details are sick, a glow in the dark anatomically correct skeleton printed on the back and the front, covered by the rib cage is a broken heart with subtle repeat stenciling that says rotten, just like you to the core. But nothing tops the full zip hoody, with mesh eye holes so you can rock the full skull head and still not bump into walls. And check the gold fronts skeletor has nothing on this dude!

“We’re all mad here…”

Another random bit of music info:

Sly and Robbie may well be the most prolific recording artists ever. One staggering estimate is that they have played on or produced some 200,000 songs.”

That’s crazy. Later in that article they talk about the different artists they’ve worked with and they range all over the board in all different genres. Pretty freaking impressive.

Tonight I heard what I believe to be the greatest quote from a 9 year old ever while watching Family Guy. On the show the daughter goes stalker style obsessive in love with… well… their pet talking dog. I swear this kid is a 40 year old in a 9 year old’s body…

“She just went crazy! <pause> Do all ladies turn crazy?”

I was watching it with Jen and Maxwell and when Max yelled that out we both lost it. The kid is so damn smart yet so freaking innocent too, it’s nuts. The funny part was during that pause he had in between those two, I was thinking to myself “…they all go crazy, Max. One day you’ll see…” and then he blurts that out.

Today was an awesome day at work. Doubled down and made somewhere around $2,300. $400 of that I’ll get this Friday before I leave to go home and the rest I’ll get right before the end of the year. That’ll be nice to get while I’m home as it’ll give me money to go out and have fun with. I had a lot of fun with the people I talked to today as well, which made it all the better. Some seriously fantastic people. The first people were from Jamaica and just incredibly nice and sweet. Makes my day so much better when I don’t get people who are scared out of their mind of buying something, which happens far too often. I’d love to write a few more deals this week before going home as anything I write between tomorrow and when I leave I’ll get paid on the day after I get back from Wisco. I really do love my job. That’s not to say that I enjoy it every minute I’m there, but as a whole I love it. I love what I do and I love what it does for people.

Last week some people that I work with got a room at the resort for a couple nights. One of the nights I went over and we hung out, watched TV, played Rummy and just had a good time over all. We were talking about how awesome it was to have all that space to hang out in and not fel cramped. The night before we had 16 people in one resort room. How the hell could you ever fit 16 people in a hotel room?? You can’t. All of us were hanging out, drinking, watching TV and just having fun before going out. There’s no way that could have ever happened in a hotel, no matter how nice it was. No regular hotel room is going to afford you that sort of space. That same night that we were playing cards we started talking about how just having that kind of space and that kind of quality and that lifestyle reminds us of why we do what we do and why people buy this thing. It’s fantastic. I can’t wait to get my family down to Disney sometime in the next year or so so they can see just what I’m talking about. That’ll be awesome.

For the first time in my life I’m looking forward to sleeping not because I enjoy sleeping, but because I can’t wait to wake up feeling rested and ready to get into work. What a strange freaking feeling hahahaha.

Can’t Sleep

December 17, 2006

It is now officially less than a week until I’m back home.

I cannot possibly put the awesomeness found here into words so let me use a picture…

Did you knew Jimmy Page originally started Led Zeppelin under the band name of “The New Yardbirds”, based on his previous band The Yardbirds.  Kind of cool little bit of random info I just found out.
I just downloaded a Surgeon remix of Thom Yorke’s The Clock.  This makes me extremely happy.

As does finding the video for Souls Of Mischief’s ‘93 Til Infinity.

And finally, today’s episode of The Things I Want™…

Another issue of The Things I Want™

Hamann, the tuner of all manner of exotica, has gotten their grubby little paws on Ferrari’s finest grand tourer, the 599 GTB.

To begin with, the Hamann treatment does not augment the engine, exhaust or suspension in any way, instead leaving the 600+ HP, V12 to do its job as Ferrari’s engineers saw fit.

In seven and a half days I’ll be back in the midwest, or at least en route to being there. I can’t wait. I found a place I want to check out while I’m there called the Zen Den. The main reason I want to go is because it’s in the Wyndham in Milwaukee, and while I don’t work for that location I do work for it’s parent company and I’m just geeky enough to want to go. You can read about this place by clicking here.

Also, a few days ago I wrote about being woken up by Jen carrying my neighbor’s python. I finally put the pictures in the computer so here you go:

And it looks like my internet connection dropped out while writing this. I guess that means I won’t be posting this for a while then…

There we go, all better I think!

December 13, 2006

I finally setup my last.fm account again. Well, started using it again anyways. I had it setup on my desktop for a while but since I didn’t have my desktop computer around I couldn’t do anything with it. Now that I have it back, it’s back in use. Take a look:

I’m so happy to have my desktop back again.  I also got my iPod cables back so now I can move music around on my iPod and charge it somewhere other than in my car.  That was a huge problem because my drive to work is only 10 minutes and if I want to listen to my iPod at work I’d only have 10 minutes worth of charging on it which doesn’t last long at all.

We had the company “End Of Year Extravagnza” (aka “we can’t call it a Christmas party”) last night.  A handful of people I work with got rooms at the resort so I went over there and met up with a bunch of people and drank before the party started and afterwards.  The designated driver of the night has a Toyota Prius, which is one of those hybrid cars… incredible.  A geek’s dream.  Seriously, sit inside of one for 5 minutes while driving around and you’ll understand, it’s pretty cool.  If they weren’t so ugly and so slow I’d consider getting one.  Oh well.

This doesn’t really feel like a day off.  It was certainly nice sleeping in this morning, especially without having the kids running around here waking me up.  I’m thinking about going into work tomorrow.  I guess that depends on what I do tonight and how much sleep I get.  I don’t have anything big planned yet so odds are I’ll probably be going into work.  It’s so strange, I don’t even like having days off work.  I want to be there.  Granted sleeping in today was nice, but if we were open on Wednesdays I’d probably be in there right now.  Ever since I changed teams I’ve loved it and love going into work.  Lately I’ve been getting frustrated because of people’s BS, but I’m trying not to let it bother me.  I know I only need to get one good person in front of me out of every 10, and I’d like to have 1 out of every 5 but there’s only so much you can do.  I’ve been seeing an average of about 8 people a week so…  A deal every week and a half is about where I’m at, though I’d like to bump that to one or two a week.  I suppose once the season starts to pick up again I’ll be seeing more people and writing more business, it’s just being patient until then.

Guess I need to find something to do for the remainder of the day then…

December 12, 2006

I finally got my desktop computer back tonight. Quite happy about this. Set it up and I’m playing catch-up now, trying to update a bunch of apps and what not. The only problem right now is we don’t have an internet connection here and so far I’ve been leeching my neighbors, and probably will continue to do so until next month when they can install the internet connection here. Having my desktop computer sitting here and not being able to get online with it would have driven me mad however, so I have a solution. I’m running an ethernet cable from my laptop (which is picking up the neighbor’s wireless signal) to my desktop and I’ve enabled internet sharing on the laptop so it’s passing the data back and forth. None of this is fast in any way shape or form because my signal is so low, but it’s definitely better than nothing. Next month when we have regular broadband I’ll be in heaven I think.

I wish I didn’t have to go to sleep in a few minutes. I’d love to fire up something like Medal Of Honor or Call Of Duty on my computer and play that for a while, even if it would be just single player. I suppose that’ll be saved for my days off.

I think tomorrow I’m going to import a bunch of photos and I’ll definitely post one of the ones from the snake that I was woken up by the other night. Beautiful snake even if it does creep me out.

I’m really tired right now but I want to put up a picture of something I want first. Here, found something:

Possibly the best entry yet in BBE’s Kings Of. . .series of broadly selected funk, soul, hip hop and more — featuring the rarest collection of grooves we’ve seen in the series by far — selected by mixtape legends Kon & Amir and fellow master compiler DJ Muro! Both CDs are mixed, and each runs north of an hour long — with Kon & Amir taking more of an archivist approach featuring longer tracks that run the gamut from rare Brazil, Latin, obscure funk, deep soul, and points beyond! Muro’s set is just as impressively diverse, and features a much longer tracklist of shorter funky bits — tightly edited for hard-hitting effect. Many of the tracks on both sets are totally fresh to our eyes and ears — making Diggin one of our favorites in the series by default — but the deep reservoir of obscure funky music more than lives up to the refreshingly rare roster!

Sounds good to me. I already have this one and I love it:

It’s hard to get any funkier than this — and with Keb Darge and RZA making the call, we’d expect nothing less! RZA gets one disc, Keb the other — and the difference between the taste of the two makes for a really expansive collection — one that’s got a few familiar bits that we’d almost forgotten about, next to some harder to find numbers that we’re plenty happy to have in a format like this!

Ok, I added to my The Things I Want™ so now I can finally go to sleep :)
