I’m about to go to sleep.  I just wanted to put a little note up on here saying how happy I have been over the past week.  Jackie and I are getting along incredibly well.  Everything about her fits me perfect.  I’ll go into more details at a time when I’m not about to fall asleep at the desk, but I’m stoked.

It’s now officially my birthday and I am so incredibly stoked.  Not because it’s my birthday.  Because Jackie, the girl I’m seeing/dating/whatever, just left me a voicemail singing Happy Birthday to me!!  I, of course, have a massive weakness for girls singing to me.  I couldn’t believe it.  I had the biggest, goofiest grin on my face when she started singing, it’s awesome.  An absolutely amazing girl.  I’ve haven’t known her long, but we both agree that it feels like we’ve been hanging out for years.

I drove up by her last night and we hung out for a while.  Just clicked so well and I just feel fantastic when I’m around her or even talking to her.  I should be seeing her Thursday and/or Friday night this week and I can’t wait!

There’s a thread on DOA about gin and now I want some.  I want to sit here with a gin & tonic, listening to the Ray Charles and J Dilla instrumentals albums I picked up today and reading this book on keeping a positive attitude.  To me that sounds fabulous.  I’m half tempted to run up to the store and get some gin & tonic.  But not tempted enough.  :)

This music is fantastic.  I also downloaded a whole bunch of new stuff from some of the music blogs I’ve been frequenting.  Most of what I’ve loaded into iTunes so far is old funk & soul stuff, but I have more recent stuff downloading right now.  I’m finding this to be an excellent way of finding new music that I would otherwise be overlooking.

Last night I watched Jet Li’s Fearless, which is supposed to be his last wushu epic style film.  I liked it.  To me it’s similar in style to Hero, though the two are totally different in content.  I’m not sure yet which one I liked better.  Right off the bat I want to say I thought Hero had better sound work but… we’ll see after I watch Fearless a few times.  All the same, I’d suggest anyone who digs this style movie to pick it up, well worth it.

I lead such a terribly exciting life.  The highlight of the first half of my day was getting to use this new shaving cream I bought last night.  This stuff is awesome.  It’s by King Of Shaves and it’s this menthol shaving cream that absolutely burns when you put it on, but in a good way.  For the first minute after putting it on your only thought is how can I get this stuff off my face right now, but after that it starts to almost feel refreshing.  Then once you’re done shaving, not only do you have an incredibly smooth shave but your face feels incredible!  Like your face is now composed of a million tiny mouths and all of them are breathing really fresh air for the first time.  It’s true, it’s awesome.  And you can buy it at Target of all places.  But if my excitement about it isn’t enough for you, take a look at all the awards they’ve won.

I have a ridiculous amount of stuff to do tomorrow.  I have to do laundry, massive amounts of ironing, clean my room, clean my car and just clean up in general.  It’s been a while since I’ve cleaned up and I certainly need it.  I need to get my room organized.  I think I also need to start looking for a new place to live.  We only have a winter rental here so I need to figure out something else so I have something lined up when this place is up.

Lots Of Coffee!

January 17, 2007

If you stand on the corner of Regent Street and Wigmore Street in central London, you are within five miles of 164 branches of Starbucks. This is a fact that is liable to provoke sudden dizziness, followed by a deep, soul-corroding fear for the future of humankind, sending you scuttling to your bedroom to throw yourself, sobbing, underneath a pillow – although this won’t help much either, since that pillow itself is within five miles of 158 branches of Starbucks, if it’s my bedroom you’re in, which, now I come to think of it, I hope you aren’t.

Oh man did this theme destroy the formatting on my post below hahahaha

Some quotes and thoughts from some books I’ve been reading lately…

“After my house burned down, I saw the moon more clearly.”
-Old Zen saying

“To think you can, creates the force that can.”
-Orison Swett Marden’s ‘Victorious Attitude’ (1916)

“We lift ourselves by our thought.  If you want to enlarge your life, you must first enlarge your thought of it and of yourself.  Hold the ideal of yourself as you long to be, always everywhere.”
-Orison Swett Marden (1850-1924); Author & Founder of ‘Success’ magazine

“It’s not what happens to you, it’s what you do with what happens to you.”
-Aldous Huxley

Realize:

  • Attitude is your choice, not circumstance.
  • Attitude is the way you respond to the situation, not the situation itself.
  • You have control over the way you choose, and the way you respond.

Things to do to keep the focus, intensity, drive & commitment necessary to change your direction from “woe is me” to “whoa, what a life!”

  1. Stop blaming circumstances for your situation.
  2. Stop blaming other people for your situation.
  3. Know your customer or prospect better.
  4. Persist until you gain an answer.
  5. Know where you are or where you should be.
  6. Work on your skills everyday.
  7. Become solution-oriented.
  8. Think before talking.

You’ve been given a bag of cement & a bucket of water.  You can either build a stumbling block or a stepping stone.

  8. I have a sense of “sunny day.”
  9. I have a sense of good fortune.

“People who are cocky and arrogant say “I know that” and move along.  People who are confident and positive ask themselves, “How good am I at that?” and seek to improve.”
-Jeffrey Gitomer

Attitude Gems

  1. Change your input to change your attitude.
    1. To be positive, surround yourself with it.

  11. What is the picture you have of yourself?
    • This is what you will become.
  12. You will hear the word “no” 116,000 times in your lifetime.
    • Try converting just 1,000 to “yes.”
  13. What you do off the job determines what you are likely to do on the job.
  14. Strengthen your weaknesses and strengthen your strength at the same time.
  15. Failure is an event, not a person.

iWant an iPhone

January 12, 2007

So a couple days ago Apple released the iPhone. I’m dying to get my hands on one, though I think I’m waiting for them to include 3G in it before I buy it. Make sure you watch the videos. Looky looky…

A Wired article had this to say

Imagine this.

You’re standing in line at Starbucks and you hear the new Bob Dylan album playing over the commanding bark of the barista and the throaty whine of foaming milk. You decide that you want to buy the whole Dylan album on the spot. You pull out your mobile phone and the free Wi-Fi gateway provided by Starbucks greets you and asks if you’d like to purchase the album. You browse the online music store with a few clicks and buy the songs.

Latte in hand, you walk outside and head to the office. Your download isn’t finished but you’re out of Wi-Fi range, so your phone automatically switches to your carrier’s data network. Your download resumes with only the slightest pause while you go over your digital slide presentation one more time. By the time you arrive at your office, Bob is already on the third song.

When you sit down at your desk, the phone detects your wireless 30-inch cinema display, mouse and keyboard. In an instant, you’re connected to your desktop peripherals via Bluetooth. Your mobile browser session shows up on the cinema display and Bob starts piping over the surround sound speakers suspended in the corners of your office. You pull out your ear buds, drop the phone in your pocket and fire up Photoshop — served over the web, of course — which instantly launches. All of your preferences and files are stored online, so you start working on the same image you last tweaked from your breakfast table.

If even a quarter of that comes true it’ll certainly change the way a lot of people work.
